34th Minnetrista Annual Art Show
3/9/2024: "Layers of Time: Pendant 1" was selected for the Minnetrista Annual show by Juror Ann Johnson. I called it "Layers of Time" because it features a fossilized Orthoceras, an ancient mollusk that lived in the sea over 400 million years ago. Their white shell contrasts with the black limestone that surrounds them. The simplicity of the textured silver design is meant to accentuate the Orthoceras. *This piece already sold to a friend of mine. A lovely story: to celebrate her 90th birthday, she bought it for her daughter! That's in keeping with "Layers of Time."
The show opened to the public on March 2 and closes on May 5 at the Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie, Indiana.
BACK IN THE STUDIO
1/27: Over 10 years ago, I received an Indiana Arts Commission Grant when I was a novice metalsmith and wanted to learn to make bracelets. I received $2,000 for materials and one year to experiment and learn everything I could. It was an exhilarating and productive year which culminated with a show at Gordy's in Muncie. This month, I went back into the studio and started making some of the bracelet design that I had not done in many years and remembered how much I enjoyed doing them. It was also a great excuse to buy an new goldsmithing hammer to make the copper bangles. They are all now in the Paradigm Gallery in Ft. Wayne but I will be making more because they are so much fun!
